17 thousand hectares of Mangrove Forest Damage

Sea Advocacy Coalition for Aceh (KALA) states, 17 thousand hectares of mangrove forest (mangroves) in Aceh Tamiang damaged, due to land conversion palm.

He said the destruction of mangrove forests in Tamiang, the most severe occurred in Sub Sruwe, Sungai Yu, Banda Mulia and Manyak Payed.

 

“As a result of this damage, many people there have lost their livelihoods. They’re hard to get fish, shrimp that had become their livelihood, “said Arifsyah.

 

Besides the loss of a lot of water ecosystems, destruction of mangrove forests in Tamiang also been discouraging the shoreline, because frequent abrasion.

Area of 20 hectares of mangrove forests in Tamiang consists of 5 thousand hectares of protected forest, another 15 thousand production forests.
